A dental filling is the most common restorative procedure. It is used to repair minimal tooth fractures or cavities. Dental filling materials can be composites, porcelain, or silver amalgam may be used. Dr. Babik uses only metal-free fillings. If you have a tooth fracture, a hole in a tooth, or damage to the enamel of the tooth, make an appointment to see Dr. Babik. He may recommend a filling.

Often these conditions are not noticeable at home. They are most often discovered during your routine cleanings at Dr. Babik’s office. That is one reason why it is important to keep up with your cleanings, usually every six months. A filling may prevent the condition from getting worse. During your routine office cleanings, Dr. Babik will examine your teeth thoroughly, and take x-rays as needed, to determine the exact location of the problem. Once Dr. Babik determines that a filling is needed, he will advise you of your options. He will walk you through all of your options, and proceed only according to what you want for yourself. He will discuss your medical history, the severity of the cavity, any fears that you may have, cost, number of visits, and decided with you what is the best option. Sometimes the procedure can be done immediately and with just a local anesthetic. Sometimes, depending on your feelings and the extent of the damage to the tooth, you might elect sedation dentistry, which Dr. Babik’s office can provide. After sedation dentistry, you will need someone else to drive you home. Dr. Babik will discuss with you how to protect the tooth that was filled, and how to keep all of your teeth clean and free of decay.

Dr. Babik uses only metal-free fillings because:

  • Less tooth structure will have to be removed,
  • There is no toxicity,
  • Resin fillings and healthier for your gums, since their tooth color margin allow us to place them above the gumline.
  • Because they often contain fluoride resin fillings may also prevent new decay at the edge of the filling.
  • There is good bonding to the remaining tooth structure, and
  • The filling looks like the original tooth!
